Arrival at Barcelona, one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world. During an orientation tour we will be made aware of a huge number of attractions including a city centre which retains its medieval street plan; one of the world's most famous streets the Ramblas, some stunning modernist architecture including several buildings by Gaudi, suchas the Sagrada Familia, dozens of museums including one dedicated to Picasso, another to Miró and yet another to Barcelona's world famous football club, Barça!

Barcelona is almost as lively at night as it is during the day and it has a unique, exciting atmosphere, which provides you with a variety of options evening outings.

Montserrat

Time at your own leisure or join us for a 1/2 day optional excursion to the nearly 1000 year old Benedictine monastery sheltered in the mountain Montserrat on 2400 feet height.

Figueres - Girona - Home

Spend the morning discovering more of Barcelona at your own leisure. Later this afternoon, we depart for the town of Figueres, Salvador Dalí's birthplace and where he spent most of his life. The Dalí Theatre-Museum not only holds art but is also art in its own right: the biggest surrealist object in the world!
Besides visiting the Dalí Theatre-Museum, you'll have the opportunity to walk through the near by Catalonian town, Girona. The labyrinth of alleys and long memories, recalling in stone the tumult of medieval life.
Later this evening we continue our homeward overnight journey through France

Montserrat
Montserrat is perhaps the most important spiritual and cultural center of Catalonia. The Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat is where the monks worship Catalonia's Patron Saint, the black Madonna of Montserrat. The extraordinary mountain of Montserrat, its monastery and its ruined hermitage caves, stands just 40km northwest of Barcelona is an ideal natural sanctuary to escape the city heat.

For some Barcelona is an Olympic City for others where Christopher Columbus sailed off.It boasts outstanding Gothic and Art Nouveau buildings, and some great museums ­ most notably those dedicated to Picasso and Catalan art. There will be photo stops, views and clues of a distinguished Capital, that of proud Catalonia.

Montserrat's Black Madonna
This woden figure of the Black Madonna of Montserrat was probably carved in the eleventh century. It is found at in the Benedictine Abbey Church in the mountains above the Catalan plains. this abbey, founded in 1030, was the site of Igantius' prayer. Many of the first missionary churches in Mexico, Chile and Peru were dedicated to Our Lady of Montserrat and many saints and popes have visited the shrine over the centuries. St. Ignatius Loyola made a pilgrimage to Montserrat after being injured in war, and it was soon after that he wrote his famous Spiritual Exercises.
